STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION TOWARDS THE USE OF WHATSAP MESSENGER IN TEACHING WRITING ON DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
The objectives of this research were as follows: 1) to analyze the activities were carried
out in using WhatsApp messenger in the learning process at the Seventh Grade Students of SMP
N 18 Surakarta in Academic Year 2019/2020; 2)To analyze the students’ perception towards the
use of WhatsApp at the Seventh Grade Students of SMP N 18 Surakarta in Academic Year
2019/2020; 3) to analyze students frequency in using WhatsApp Messenger to learn writing
skills at the Seventh Grade Students of SMP N 18 Surakarta in Academic Year 2019/2020.
The researcher used qualitative method. It was conducted at SMP N 18 Surakarta. The
research was conducted from May 2020 to June 2020. The sample of the research were the
students of class VII A and VII B that consisted of 30 students. The researcher used random
sampling method to determine the research subject. The source of the data was observed,
interview with the English teacher, a questionnaire was distributed to the research subject, and
documents. Then, the researcher used open coding, axial coding, and selective coding to analyze
the data.
